Welcome to Currituck County Schools - A Purple Star Award District!
Currituck County Schools (CCS) is proud to announce that all ten schools have been designated as 2025-2026 Purple Star Award Schools by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. This distinction is awarded to schools demonstrating military-friendly practices and a commitment to military-connected students and families. This year, 598 schools were honored statewide with the Purple Star Award, and CCS is among 13 school districts across North Carolina to receive district-wide recognition.

North Carolina is home to the 4th largest military population in the United States, including more than 52,000 school-age children of active-duty military, Guard, and Reserve*.
In 2019, The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction launched the Purple Star Award Designation initiative to recognize the state’s strong military presence and its support for military families. The Purple Star designation is awarded to schools that demonstrate military-friendly practices and a commitment to military students and families.
Currituck County Schools is committed to providing help and support to our military and their families, and we are proud to have all ten schools across our district designated as Purple Star Award schools.

With the new addition of Tulls Creek Elementary School in the 2026-2027 School Year, Currituck County Schools looks forward to earning the honor again next year with all eleven schools.
