Knotts Island is a small rural community surrounded by the beautiful waters of Knotts Island Bay and the Currituck Sound. An abundance of woods and marshes on the adjacent Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge, create an atmosphere of beauty and tranquility. Educators find this setting perfect for conveying an understanding and appreciation of our area's uniqueness. Situated in the heart of this isolated community is Knotts Island Elementary School, home of the Woodducks. Knotts Island Elementary is a K-5 school with approximately 100 students.
