• Driver's Education at CCHS

If you are interested in registering for Driver's Ed and have not done so, please pick up a registration form available in the main office or online.
    General information about the program:
North Carolina Driving School is the company who provides Driver's Education for Currituck County High School. Student's must be at least 14 1/2 years of age to take the course; however, due to the amount of students needing Driver's Education students often do not get placed into a class until they are 15. Classes are created based on age and birthday; however, attendance, behavior, and grades do factor in with regards to placement in a class. There is a $25 fee for Driver's Education which goes directly to the North Carolina Driving School on the first day of the class.
    Once enrolled in the class:
Attendance is 100% mandatory.  As stated on page 12 of the CCHS handbook, "To be eligible to attend or participate in any extracurricular activity, a student must be in attendance at school on that day; if the event is scheduled for a weekend or holiday, a student must have been in attendance on the last school day prior to the event to be eligible to participate."  The classroom portion is a 30 hour course which takes place Monday through Thursday from 3:15pm-6:15pm (during school year), and 8:00am-12:00pm (during summer). Upon completion of the classroom portion, students will then take the 6 hour behind-the-wheel portion of the course. *Parents please make sure that your phone numbers are accurate so that the instructor can contact you about scheduling your student to drive. Students must be in good academic standing (passing 75% of their courses) to take the class and must maintain these same grade standards after completing the course in order to obtain and keep their driving privileges.
