Welcome to Cabin 2 Ms. MacDonald's ClassTeacher: Mrs. MacDonald ~ Welcome to life in Camp Kinder. I'm very excited about school this year and my new group of campers. Born in Kinston, North Carolina, my older brother and I grew up in Tarboro where I attended public school from Kindergarten through graduation from High School. My days growing up were filled with activities. I was involved in dance - beginning at the age of 5 years. I enjoyed recitals and competitions with my dance troupe. I was also a cheerleader from 7th grade through 12th grade serving as captain of both my Junior Varsity and Varsity squads. Central to my life was growing up in Calvary Episcopal Church. I served as an acolyte beginning in 6th grade and was Senior Acolyte in the 12th grade.
My desire in life was always to be a teacher. I loved working with children, and I knew that I wanted to do this as a career. This desire led me to East Carolina University. During my four years at ECU, I was invited to be a University Ambassador and I was inducted into the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Life and Family Relations. I also obtained a teaching license in Birth to Kindergarten education. In May of 2010, I received my Master's Degree in Elementary Education from ECSU. In August of 2017 I became a Demostration Classroom in the eastern part of the state working with the office of Early Learning.
Upon graduation, I taught Kindergarten at Stocks Elementary School for 4 years followed by 4 years of teaching pre-K. Then I moved to Currituck where I have been a kindergarten teacher for 13 years. I enjoyed these 21 successful years where I have learned many things, enjoyed many children, and grew in my love for teaching.
Tarboro is also where my two daughters were born. My oldest daughter began her school career at Stocks where she entered the pre-K program at age 3 and continued there through Kindergarten. Upon moving to Currituck County she contuined her education at Grigg's Elementary and then moved to Jarvisburg once it opened in 2008. My second Child started pre-K at Kingdom Kids and then contuined her education at Currituck County Schools.
I currently live in Currituck with my two wonderful daughters. Miller is now a Sophomore at ASU and Sydney is currently a Junior at CCHS. On my time off I love to fish offshore - especially in tournaments. At my family beach home in Morehead City, there are several citations hanging in the gameroom for fish that I caught along with those of my brother and my father. My girls and I also enjoy going to the beach, both here and at Atlantic Beach. Spending time with my friends, both old and new, brings me joy. I believe that one of the best things you can do for yourself is to gather with friends and enjoy memories from the past and the adventures of the future. I also find great joy in spending time with my family. Big holiday gatherings have always been a highlight in my life. I am fortunate that both my parents are alive and are able to come together to celebrate the Holidays. So, if you're looking for me at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, look for me at our family home in Morehead City.
I look forward to meeting each child in my classroom and making them a part of my life. I believe that "Children bloom where they are planted," and to watch your children bloom with you is a privilege.
