• Hello.  My name is Barbara Tidd and I am the proud principal of W.T. Griggs Elementary School! 

    I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than13 years. I received my Bachelors and Masters in Education from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and also a Masters in Education in Leadership/Administration from Regent University.  I have worked as a fourth and fifth grade teacher, special education teacher in both elementary and middle schools, Assistant Principal at both elementary and high schools and most recently, elementary school Principal in Newport News Virginia. 

    On a personal note, my husband and I currently live in Chesapeake, VA.  I have two amazing children! My daughter, Brinna, just graduated from nursing school at ODU and will begin her nursing career in the ICU in Virginia Beach.  My son, Conner, is a Norfolk Police Officer and serves in the US Army Reserves as an MP in Virginia.  

    I view education as a life-long process and expect that I will continue to learn much about the uniqueness of W. T. Griggs Elementary School this year and in the years to come. I am excited to unite my experience, my openness to learn, and my child-centered approach to support our students.  Because the relationships between families and the school are vital to the success of our students, I encourage you to become involved in every way possible.  I look forward to meeting you soon!
