Welcome to a New Year!  My name is Wendy Burgett and I am with the Title I reading program.  Title I is a federally funded program that began in 1965 to provide assistance to children needing additional help in communication skills.  In 2006, I completed my Masters in Elementary Education and am certified to teach K-6.  I graduated from East Carolina University in 1987 with a B.A. in Foreign Arts and Literatures.  My work will primarily be with Kindergarten and First grade grade this year.  I will provide one-on-one assistance, small literacy support groups, classroom inclusion when needed and specific, targeted skill-based instruction as needed.  In conjunction with the classroom teacher, I will provide instructional assistance to help your student become an independent reader and writer.  Each semester, I will instruct four, First grade students in Reading Recovery, which is a very targeted reading intervention, designed to increase foundational reading skills.  If you have any questions regarding this intervention please do not hesitate to call.  I can be reached during school hours at 252-232-2237 ext 6035.  I can also be reached by email at wburgett@currituck.k12.nc.us.
    Happy Reading,
    Wendy Burgett
