I am elated to begin my 9th year as Principal of Shawboro Elementary School for the 2024-2025 school year.
As a proud alumni of Currituck County schools, I am excited to serve the community in this capacity. After graduating high school in 2000, I attended East Carolina University where I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree in Education (2004) and Master of Arts in Education (2005).
During my final month of graduate school, I was offered an opportunity to teach in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada. While in Nevada, I taught a Science Lab to grades K-5 then moved through multiple grades at the elementary level. Following my classroom experience, I was selected to serve as an Instructional Coach Project Facilitator. In this role, I mentored teachers, designed and presented professional development and worked at the district level on project implementations and standards alignment activities. During this time, I also attended Arizona State University, where I obtained my Master of Arts degree in School Administration and Supervision (2014).
In 2013, I was given the opportunity to return to Currituck County as a Science teacher for Moyock Middle school. I remained in that position for two years before joining the Moyock Elementary family as their Assistant Principal.
Joining the Shawboro Elementary family has allowed me a chance to work with fantastic educators who are dedicated to learning. Our goal is to provide each student with a challenging and rigorous educational experience that is appropriate to his/her academic level. We will continue to differentiate the curriculum and structure much of our day utilizing the MTSS model to meet the needs of our students.
I am currently working towards my Doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership and Change through the prestigious University of Southern California. USC is a top-tier, R1 Doctoral research university. I hope this program will enrich my skill set to continue to grow and improve our school.
I believe in a school community where children are first and education is the number one priority. It is my top priority to provide students with a safe and effective learning environment, full of rich experiences. I am eager to get to know all of our new students and families this year as well as continue to foster relationships with familiar faces.
Let’s have an amazing 2024-2025 school year! I’m proud to be a Mustang!
