Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!
This is going to be an exciting year! I'd like to tell you a little about myself. I am a California native and moved to Virginia in my teens. I have called the east coast home most of my life. I am a graduate of Great Bridge High School. I received my Associate degree in Early Education from Tidewater Community College, my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Norfolk State University and my Master's degree in Education from Regent University. I have been teaching Early Education for the past 30 years.
I am a mother of three grown children and have four grandchildren. I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child. I am confident your child will succeed as we work together throughout the year. If you need to contact me for any reason, please E-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will get back to you in a timely fashion.
Our school day begins at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 2:20 p.m.
Please send in a note if your child will have a change in how he/she is getting home, or if someone new is picking up your child that is on the list you will fill out.
I look forward to working with your child and will be communicating with you throughout the yearto keep your informed of your child's progress, events, and activities in the classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, call and leave at message at the school. I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

DISCIPLINE: The following will be incorporated into our classroom:
1. Raise your hand when you want to talk, if someone else is talking.
2. Try to do your best in all that you do.
3. Always tell the truth.
4. Be courteous to those around you.
5. Follow the playground, hallway and bathroom rules.
CONSEQUENCES: A behavior chart is in the classroom.
1st offense: Move your car to the pit-stop. A verbal warning is given.
2nd offense: Move your car to the garage. A second warning is given
3rd offense: Quiet table at lunch
4th offense: Quiet table and a note is written to parent
5th offense: Office referral
I will have a behavior modification log that will go home when needed. This will document inappropriate behavior daily and go home to be signed nightly. This will discontinue when behavior has improved.
We also have a reward system for positive behavior. We have a classroom jar that will be filled with crystals when the class as a whole is doing a great job. When this jar is filled, we will have a fun activity that will include all of the children.
Your child will bring home a homework packet and schedule every Monday. Homework should be done every night, Monday through Thursday. Please set aside a time and place for your child to do his/her homework. Please check for mistakes and neatness and send it back the next day. He/she will also be asked to read 15 min. nightly.
If you pay on an account for your child's lunch, PLEASE be sure to send in a note when or if he/she can get extras i.e. ice cream, soda, cookie etc. When you send in a note to the cafeteria, they will put a note on your child's account about when and what he/she can get. If you don't, you may be surprised that he/she is getting an ice cream, soda, and cookie, (besides their lunch) every day. I am unable to keep up with the account. If you have any questions regarding the account, please contact the office.
