Mrs. Lorin Fentress

Hello!  I'm so happy to be back at Knotts Island Elementary this year, this is my 7th year teaching here. Here is just a little bit about me.

I graduated in 2010 from Elizabeth City State University with an Elementary Education BS concentration in Math.  I tutored a few years throughout college and a little after with Sylvan Learning Center.  I have been a TA for Pasquotank and Camden county schools in the special education department.

I started my teaching experience in 2013 at The Albemarle School in Elizabeth City, where I taught 3rd - 5th grade reading and 6th - 7th grade math.  The following year I was a 6th grade math teacher at Perquimans County Middle School.

My family and I have made the Island our forever home!  I have two kids; Liam is in second grade with Mrs. McCloud and Madisyn is in fifth grade with Mrs. Peterson.  Our animal adventure continued over the summer, we now have 2 dogs (Bella & Dixie), 1 cat (Yoda), 14 chickens, 2 turkeys, and we just got 2 cockatiels (Pika and Nugget)!  Needless to say we have a little island zoo!

My goal is always to have students excited about learning and always wanting to learn more.  This year we will be really focusing on independent reading and building our reading stamina!  We will also be incorporating a lot of writing this year.  Math will be heavily concentrated on multiplication, place value, and fractions.  Fourth grade is the best!

I look forward to the amazing 2021-2022 school year!
