     Mrs. Robin Peterson-Reading Specialist

With the exception of four years, I have lived in Currituck County my entire life. I was raised on Knotts Island and graduated from Currituck County High School. I then attended Tidewater Community College and College of the Albemarle. I am "Highly Qualified" under the "No Child Left Behind" legislation. I continue my education through research-based workshops and literacy conferences. I have been at Knotts Island Elementary since 1995. I have worked across grade levels K-6 in the areas of mathematics and language arts including over 20 years in the Title 1 reading program. This year my focus is on grades 1-5.  Some of my greatest joys in life are helping  students  become  fluent and competent readers and writers.  My goal is for each child to succeed and enjoy becoming a life-long learner. I look forward to working closely with you and your child.  I encourage parents to visit at anytime. My classroom door is always open!

    Reading Remediation
Reading remediation programs are designed to offer additional help to students who struggle in the area of language arts.  Remediation teachers/staff can offer either in-class or pull-out assistance to improve reading comprehension and phonemic awareness skills. Parents can supplement  instruction at home by spending quality time reading with their children and supervising written assignments. Reading remediation programs have a track record of success spanning over 40 years. Countless children have benefited through their involvement in the such programs.
