ALOHA Jaguar Parents, Guardians, and Students!
It is great to be at JES! My teaching career started in March of 1996 when I was hired by Currituck County High Schools for a social studies position. During the school years of 1996-2000, not only did I teach social studies but I was an assistant football coach and wrestling coach. After 4 years at the high school level, I moved to Currituck Middle School and once again taught social studies as well as coached the CCMS Raider football and wrestling teams. When Moyock Middle School opened in the fall of 2002, I started teaching physical education and continued to coach middle school football and wrestling. In 2005, I was transferred to Dr. W.T. Griggs Elementary School where I taught physical education for 3 years. My passion for physical education grew tremendously during my years at MMS and Griggs Elementary School.
In 2008, I moved to Dare County and took a job at Kitty Hawk Elementary School as their physical education teacher. I loved my time at KHES but in my heart, I always wanted to return to Currituck County Schools. The opportunity to return came this year in August when I was hired for the Jarvisburg Elementary School physical education teacher position. It is great to be here, and I love being a Jaguar. Thank you for all the warm welcomes and support.
My approach to teaching physical education entails challenge by choice, and differentiated instruction to help all students be successful with their movement skills and to help students develop the love, knowledge, and skills that will foster a lifelong healthy active lifestyle. That’s why my students hear me say ALOHA to them. Aloha means hello and goodbye in Hawaii, but I also use it to sum up my overall approach and goal of teaching physical education.
ALOHA = A Lifetime Of Healthy Activities. Thanks again for the warm welcome, and please reach out with any questions, concerns, or ideas you have to help our students have a great school year in physical education class.
