    Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Please see the map below for the morning and afternoon school traffic pattern.

Enter the YMCA parking lot from Shortcut Road by turning onto Aviation Parkway. This is located by the blue sign that says “Currituck Community Park Aviation Parkway.” Go around the round-a-bout and exit the round-a-bout straight across from where you entered (to stay on Aviation Parkway). Currituck Animal Shelter should be on the right shortly after exiting the round-a-bout. Next, turn right onto Barco Road, and then turn right into the Central Elementary parking lot. Continue straight into the dropoff loop. This year we will be unloading and loading car riders from the side of the building.

Buses will load and dismiss students in the front of the building this year.

Please do not turn off Shortcut Road onto Barco Road. This will require a u-turn to join the line. For safety reasons, we will adhere to the new traffic pattern.

Morning Arrival takes place from 7:30-7:50 am. Any students arriving after 7:50am will need to be walked into the office to be signed in as tardy by a parent/guardian. Between 7:30-7:50 am, staff members will get students out of vehicles in the morning and also be stationed along the way for all grades to safely make it to their classrooms. After being dropped off, students will head to the cafeteria, for breakfast, if desired, then proceed to their homeroom to begin their day.

Afternoon Dismissal will begin at 2:40pm. The buses will leave campus at 2:40pm and then car riders will then begin to be loaded into their cars. After parent verification is complete at the start of the school year, parents/guardians will receive a car tag with an assigned number representing their student(s). If an adult arrives to pick up a student without a car tag, verification through PowerSchool will need to be completed (must have ID ready). No student will be released to an adult unless they are an approved adult through PowerSchool. For safety reasons, students will be loaded into the passenger side of the vehicle.

Transportation Changes must come through the front office via a note sent in to your child’s homeroom teacher or a phone call to the front office by a parent/guardian. The school cannot accept transportation requests delivered through Class Dojo. Please make all transportation changes by 2:00pm. After 2:00pm, no more transportation changes or student pick-ups may be made, unless a true emergency arises. After 2:00pm, parents are kindly asked to wait in the parent pick-up line for their student.

To ride a bus, students must be registered with Currituck County Schools transportation services. To receive registration information, please visit the transportation webpage https://www.currituck.k12.nc.us/domain/32.
