Hello and welcome to JP Knapp.  It is my second year here and I love being part of the Spartan family!  I am fascinated about how we all learn a bit differently and I so enjoy helping others learn and embrace how they learn best.

A quick bit about me.....  My professional life is a varied one.  I graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in Business.  For several years, I worked in the interior design field.  While doing so, I began working with a friend's son to help him navigate a variety of school difficulties.  That interchange sparked curiosity about how we learn.  We are all so very different in how we receive and manipulate information and how we synthesize, adapt, and apply that information.  That excitement drove me to learn more; so I went back to school, but this time it was with two pre-school daughters.  I always say that they learned to read in college- but it was during my college.  After graduating with my master's degree in Special Education and dual endorsements, I taught in Virginia schools for fifteen years.  When those lovely ladies graduated from high school, I was presented with an opportunity to work in healthcare, doing curriculum design and setting up medical records training for adults across the country.  So I switched from working with teens to working with adults.  Again, same and different!  It allowed me to combine my project management and education skills to help hospital systems facilitate the transition to a different electronic medical record system.  I learned a lot about what amazing people our healthcare professionals are!  After working with adults for eight years, I went back to teaching in North Carolina.  I absolutely love working with teens and am blessed to now be part of the Spartan family.

What do I enjoy doing when I'm not here?  I enjoy spending time with my husband and family, painting, boating, scuba diving, cake decorating, traveling and anything crafty or adventurous!

I am looking forward to an awesome year and working with you and your student!
