Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Cindy McNeill

Hello! I am Cindy McNeill, and I teach English II and III at J P Knapp. I am a 27 year veteran teacher who has taught 6-8 ELA and 6-12 AVID at the First Flight Schools in Dare County prior to moving to Knapp. I grew up in Suffolk, Va and graduated from Longwood University with a B.A. in English before moving to North Carolina. I then went back to school at ECSU to earn a teaching certification before embarking on my career. I've coached cheerleading, sponsored SGA and here at Knapp I am the sponsor for the Arts & Crafts Club.

I grew up in a rural setting where I experienced farm life, 4-H, playing softball, and cheerleading. As a child I raised hogs, learned to sew, cook, and publicly speak and debate through 4-H. I always loved school and especially reading; I am sure that is how I landed in this career. My current hobbies are pretty similar to those of my childhood, minus the hogs. I read a lot in my spare time, and I love discussing books, telling stories, and listening to others do the same. I hope that those loves show through in my teaching. I have a great She-shed in my backyard, and I make a lot of crafts in there. My she-shed is my happy place when it is not a mess from my crafting.

I have been married to my husband Jimmy for 34 years, and we have two children - Jamie (30) and Cassidy (25). They each have a significant other and two dogs each. I also have 5 siblings and my husband has 7, so we have lots of family. In the summer, I go to the beach every Sunday for family beach day, and sometimes I make it there on other days. We just bought a camper, and so I hope to be doing a lot of camping in my future!

Since I've taught 6th grade through 12th grade, I've experienced many age levels, and I am really happy to be teaching 10th graders. We seem to click - I enjoy their sense of humor, blossoming independence, and outgoing personalities. We have a lot of interesting and sometimes powerful discussions! Teaching English II and III has proven to be a new and challenging career choice that I do not regret for a moment.
