• Mrs. Terranova and Oakley

Hello everyone! Welcome to my teacher page. First off, I wanted to say that I am super excited to be a part of the SES family! Last year I was a 3rd grade teacher here at Shawboro Elementary School and I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with this year's group of 2nd graders. I am very dedicated and passionate about teaching, I love what I do and getting to work with children. My goal is to reach every single student that walks into my classroom and to have a positive/trusting relationship with my students. I believe that all children learn differently, which calls for diverse styles of teaching. I also believe that each student is a unique individual and I strive to get to know each of my Kiddo's.

Here's a little bit about me:

I am from Perquimans County and I'm currently 24 years old. I married my highschool sweetheart, Greg; we have a Retriever's business called Terranova Retriever's, where we own and train AKC registered retrievers (primarily Labrador's and Chesapeake Bay's). We compete with our dogs in AKC Hunt Tests and HRC trials, we also provide training services to the public as well. Before becoming a teacher I worked on a boat as a commercial fisherman with my husband.

Some of my favorite hobbies includes hunting, fishing, photography, and working with the retrievers.

I love reading a good book and getting kids excited about reading. One of my main missions is to get my students to enjoy reading by the time they leave my classroom. Probably one of my favorite things about teaching is when I have a student who is struggling with a lesson, and they are having a difficult time grasping a concept, when it suddenly clicks into place and the kid has one of those "Aha!" moments. I love seeing a student understand and excel with a concept when it once seemed difficult to them. I believe that in order to be an effective teacher you have to put your heart into your lessons. My number one classroom policy is honesty. I also belive that words hold a lot of power; they can either build each other up or tear each other down and in my classroom we are builders! My students become my "Kiddo's" and I want for each student to look forward to being a part of our class.

I'm super excited about this school year and I can't wait to meet all of my students!
