Welcome to second grade! My name is Tara Brinkley. Currituck County has been my home for most of my life. I received my Bachelors in Arts from Elizabeth State University and this will be my sixteenth year teaching. This is my sixth year in second grade.
Ms. Kouskouris will be with us until December. She is an intern from East Carolina University and is in her last semester before her career begins. She will have many roles in our classroom as observer, coteacher, and lead teacher.
I have a fantastic family. My husband is a police officer in Southern Shores. My son is experiencing the “adult life” and my daughter is in middle school. We feel blessed to call Currituck County home.
Second grade is a fabulous time in the life of a child. We will learn about being good citizens, the meaning of working hard, being critical thinkers, working with others, and mastering reading skills to ensure that each student is ready for third grade.
I will use ClassDojo as the main contact with you. We will spend the first few weeks of the year learning about my expectations and procedures. You will notice that your child will receive a considerable amount of points with few being deducted at the beginning. This is a period of learning and I will clearly teach the expectations and procedures before deducting points. However, as the year progresses students will be more accountable for their choices.
If you have any questions or concerns you can contact me through ClassDojo, email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or phone (453-2700, ext. 5508).
Thank you for sharing your children with me! I look forward to working with you this year.
