My name is Paula Hudak (maiden name Howell) and I am one of the Spanish teachers at CCHS. I am very excited to begin my teaching career in Currituck County. On this page I'd like to share a bit about my educational background and my interests.
I'd also like to encourage you to visit my website for more class information, lesson plans, and updates for Spanish I at mrs.hudakspanishclass.weebly.com. I'm also happy to receive e-mails at email@example.com.
I graduated from The Ohio State University in 2012 with a BS in Spanish and Latin American International Studies. In June of 2017 I graduated with my Masters of the Arts in Teaching Hispanic Studies from ECU.
I studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Universidad de Belgrano in 2011. While abroad, I fell in love with learning Spanish and meeting people from different cultures. Academically, it sparked my interest in Latin American culture and literature.
My teaching philosophy revolves around the concept that all students can take something away from each lesson, whether they are excited about studying Spanish or not. I believe that each lesson should be relevant to the real-world use of Spanish and applicable to the everyday lives of the students. This belief is exhibited in my classroom through lessons that incorporate many unique activities where students learn many useful language skills such as; how to introduce themselves, how to describe themselves, or how to express what they like to do in their free time.
Each day I try to help students identify with the practices and products of another culture as I believe that the acceptance and understanding of foreign cultures is what helps develop our students to be productive citizens of the world.
A little about me:
Originally from Ohio, my husband and I moved to the Outer Banks area in 2015 and have happily accepted the coastal lifestyle. We have a 13 year old dog named Roxy and we enjoy taking day trips to the beach with her. In my free time I like to run, practice yoga, read, and cook new and different dishes.
I'm looking forward to meeting many of you and your students!
(or Howell-- depending on who you ask!)
