     Welcome to Sports Medicine

My name is Courtney Phelps and this is my tenth year as a teacher/Athletic Trainer at Currituck County High School.  I teach 4 Sports Medicine courses and I am also the Head Athletic Trainer. I played softball and enjoyed all sports which sparked my Athletic Training interest in high school. I studied Athletic Training at Barton College and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 2008. Upon graduating, I pursued a Master of Arts Degree in Health Education and Promotion at East Carolina University, completing the degree in 2011. In 2017 I was awarded the NCATA Secondary School Athletic Trainer of the Year award. I have worked in all levels of athletics, as well as physical therapy clinics during the course of my eleven years of practice. I am involved with the NC Coaches Association's East-West All-Star Games and is the current Athletic Trainer for the Edenton Steamers summer collegiate baseball team. My goal is to continue expanding my students knowledge of sports medicine and to build a full functioning student aid program. With the support of administration, boosters and parents, the Athletic Training progam has evolved into a full scale healthcare service providing a wide-range of care to the student-athletes at Currituck County High School.
