Mrs. Kimberly Johnson-Denby

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!  I am excited about the privilege of working with the students and families of SES this year.  This is my 27th year with Currituck County Schools.  I spent 19 years at Central Elementary, 1 year at Jarvisburg, and this will be my 7th year at Shawboro.  In addition to being part of the Title I team, I am also one of the school leads for Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS).  More information regarding MTSS can be found on the district homepage under the Instruction tab at the top of the page.

I grew up in Currituck and was a graduate of Currituck County High School.  In addition, I have been blessed to raise two beautiful daughters, Kaitlyn (26) and Korbyn (23), in Currituck.  Currently, I reside at the southern end of the county with my husband, Walter, and our three fur babies; Bella, Piper, and Coco.  I spend my extra time with family, dabbling in arts and crafts, nurturing my many plants, and relaxing on the beach.

I am a graduate of Old Dominion University and earned my teaching licensure from Elizabeth City State University.  In addition, I earned my Reading Recovery Certification from University of North Carolina at Wilmington and participated in 65 hours of Master Literacy Training from NCDPI.

I strongly encourage parental involvement if I am working with your child.  It takes the home & school team to ensure success for every student.  Therefore, please feel free to contact me via phone, email, or Class Dojo (which is my preferred method of communication.)

I look forward to supporting SES students and watching them bloom into readers, writers and mathematicians.
