Classroom: 302 2019-2020Subject: 7th Grade Mathematics and Math 7 HonorsWelcome to 7th Grade Math!
My name is Karen Guzinski and this is my 4th year at Moyock Middle School, but my 14th year teaching. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Evansville (Evansville, Indiana) and my Master’s of Education from Western Governor’s University. My husband and I moved to the area in July 2016 from Louisville, Kentucky. I am looking forward to a great year teaching 7th grade Math at MMS and look forward to challenging your students and sharing my passion for Math and learning. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at email@example.com
7th Grade Math has a large focus on working with ratios and proportions and expressions and equations. We will also work with rational numbers, percents, geometry, and probability and statistics. This year we will mainly be using Open Up Resources. Related resources will be available in Google Classroom that you and your child can review and complete at home. Students will tape class activities, quizzes, and worksheets in their notebook, as well as complete notes and practice in their notebook. We will do a short Daily Review every day and have a short weekly assessment on Fridays. Students can review nightly (and especially on Thursday night!) with the Daily Review worksheet in their notebooks. Please check with your student every day to see what they are learning and practicing.
I will be using the school grading policy explained in the handbook. Grades will be weighted in three categories: Tests/Projects: 50%; Assignments/Projects: 30%; Quizzes: 20%. Grades on late assignments will be dropped 10% per day and no late work will be accepted for a grade after the 5th day.
If a student is absent, he/she can access notes or practice through Google Classroom and any paper copies can be picked up in the designated spot in the classroom upon return. If you would like additional resources, practice, or videos for practice at home, please email me and I will be happy to provide them!I will have 'office hours' every Monday from 3:45-4:30. Please contact me if you are interested in your child staying after school for extra help during this time.Additional Information for Math 7 Honors OnlyWe will be working at a very fast pace this year and will be covering all of the 7th grade and half of the 8th grade curriculum. You can expect to have homework or extra practice regularly and are encouraged to ask questions or email for extra help or resources if needed.
