     Welcome to 7th Grade Math!

My name is Karen Guzinski and this is my 3rd year at Moyock Middle School, but my 13th year teaching. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Evansville (Evansville, Indiana) and my Master’s of Education from Western Governor’s University. My husband and I moved to the area 2 years ago from Louisville, Kentucky. I am looking forward to a great year teaching 7th grade Math at MMS and look forward to challenging your students and sharing my passion for Math and learning. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at kguzinski@currituck.k12.nc.us

7th Grade Math has a large focus on working with ratios and proportions and expressions and equations. We will also work with rational numbers, percent, geometry, and probability and statistics. This year we will mainly be using Open Up Resources. Related resources will be available in Google Classroom that you and your child can review and complete at home. Students will tape class activities, quizzes, and worksheets in their notebook, as well as complete notes and practice in their notebook. We will use a new notebook each 9 weeks. Please check with your student every day to see what they are learning and practicing.

I will be using the school grading policy explained in the handbook. Grades will be weighted in three categories: Tests/Projects: 50%; Assignments/Projects: 30%; Quizzes: 20%.  Grades on late assignments will be dropped 10% per day and no late work will be accepted for a grade after the 5th day.

If a student is absent, he/she can access notes or practice through Google Classroom and any paper copies can be picked up in the designated spot in the classroom upon return.

If you would like additional resources, practice, or videos for review at home, please email me and I will be happy to provide them!
