Hello, My name is Bobbie Johnson and I will be your child's resource teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.  I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child.  We will be doing some fun things in resource this year.  We are starting off with remote learning which will look different than in school learning, but we will still cover your child's IEP needs with your assistance.

I would like to tell you a little about myself.  I've been married for 30 years and we have four wonderful daughters who all graduated from Currituck County Schools.  I am also a grandmother to two beautiful little granddaughters and two handsome grandsons. I have a bachelor's degree in Special Education (K/12) and General Education (K/6) from Western Governors University, along with a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.   When I began in Currituck County Schools, I was a teacher assistant for almost 10 years (Central Elementary, Shawboro Elementary, and Moyock Middle School).  During the 2014-2015 school year, I began my teacher career right here at Shawboro Elementary as an Exceptional Children's teacher.

This year we are so lucky to have Mrs. Erin Gainey as our Instructional Assistant.  Mrs. Gainey is not new to the Exceptional Children's Department.  She has been working with students here at Shawboro for several years.  She has been a substitute, long term substitute, and an Exceptional Children's Instructional Assistant.  Mrs. Gainey is married and has two children that also attend Currituck County Schools.  We are excited to add her to our classroom family.  She will be working with students online as well.  Please give her a BIG welcome when you see her.

I look forward to working with all the students and getting to them.  If there is anything specific you would like for me to know please Dojo, email or call.  I believe that working together towards your child's goal is the most important thing.  When it is time for their Annual or Re-evaluation IEP meeting, I will DoJo or email you a letter which will give you several dates and times to choose from.  Please reply to the message as soon as possible as our calendar fills up quickly.    You will also receive a DRAFT of the IEP we will be discussing in the meeting 7-10 days prior to the meeting via email or USPS (your choice).  If you receive the draft via USPS there will be a form attached for you to sign indicating you received the DRAFT and return it in the stamped envelope that will be enclosed.  If you prefer to have the DRAFT sent to you via email then you will need to reply to the message with RECEIVED.  Meetings will still be conducted via Google Meet so please ensure I have your correct phone numbers.

We will have live meets in small groups during remote learning this year and then your child will have independent work to complete by the end of the day.  This is practice on their goals and is needed to help your child move forward and closer to grade level expectations.  These times will fulfill your child's IEP required time.  EVERY Friday your student will be assessed on each of their IEP goals.  Please ensure that they are completing these assessments so we can see if they are moving forward or if we need to have a conference.  We are working on this together and communication is very important during this time.

We will be using a classroom Bitmoji in resource this year and your child will be emailed the new one each Sunday night.  In this Bitmoji classroom there will be links to the sites we use for independent practice and assessments.  Also, any recorded lessons will be on the Bitmoji classroom too, just in case you can't make the live lessons.  Your child will also be receiving Google Meet links that will be the same for each day's small group meetings in the Bitmoji classroom.  I will let you know which group your child will need to attend.  All your child will need to do to join the group is click on the link next to their group's name.  We are trying to make this as streamlined as possible since they have multiple meets during the day.  Their resource time will not be scheduled during their core classes (reading, math, science, social studies, and specials) with their general education teacher(s).  At anytime you need assistance with any of this PLEASE Dojo, email, or call me.  I am here to assist parents and care givers as well with this new system of learning.

Thank you again for entrusting Mrs. Gainey and myself to assist in your child's education this school year.
