2020-2021 School Year
Hello! My name is Shannon Hill and I will be working as the K-2 Exceptional Children's teacher. I would like to take a moment and introduce myself as I will be working with your child this school year. This will be my sixth year both in the classroom and working as a resource teacher here at Shawboro Elementary. I also serve as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher for Currituck County Schools.
I am originally from Northern California. I have been married to my husband Ben for 19 years and his military career is what landed us in Currituck! We have three awesome boys. They are ages 16, 15, and my youngest is 10 and is in 5th grade here at SES.
I was blessed to be a stay at home mom for 11 years. During this time I was a state licensed and navy certified home daycare provider. It was this career that made me realize my love and passion for working with children. I chose to return to school to become a teacher. I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education, a masters degree in Special Education, and a second masters in Special Education focused on teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing. You can say I am a lifelong learner! I enjoy researching and learning new strategies to support the academic and social growth of my students.
Erin Gainey will also be working with K-5 resource as a teacher assistant. I am excited to have Erin assist in our classroom as she is a huge asset to SES’s EC team! Erin has worked as an EC TA for Currituck County schools for the past 6 years. She has spent 4 years at SES and prior to that worked with the Pre-K program. Erin is originally from South Carolina, has lived in Currituck for the past 11 years. She has been married to Brian for 14 years and his military career landed them in Currituck as well. They have two boys ages 13 and 11.
I am excited to be a participating team member in your child’s educational journey. My goal is to provide enhanced educational support to help meet your child’s unique learning needs. I do realize our kiddos face varying challenges with our virtual learning platform, I am here for both you and your child. Please communicate any concerns or needs you may have!
I look forward to getting to know you and your child while helping them grow to their fullest learning potential this school year. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at email@example.com or (252) 232-2237 ext. 6048 should you have any concerns regarding your child’s learning or progress.
