Mrs. Hill’s Kindergarten Class

    Room 405

    2023-2024 School Year

    Hello Kindergarten Families!

My name is Shannon Hill and I am excited to be teaching Kindergarten this school year!

While this is my second year teaching kindergarten, it is my ninth year teaching here at Shawboro Elementary. I am certified in K-6 Elementary Education, K-12 Special Education, and K-12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary and Special Education, a masters' degree in Special Education, and a second masters in Special Education focused on teaching' Deaf and Hard of Hearing. You can say I am a lifelong learner! I enjoy researching and learning new strategies to support the academic and social growth of my students.

I am originally from Northern California. I have been married to my husband Ben for 22 years and his military career is what landed us in Currituck! We have three awesome boys who are 19, 18, and 13. I was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom for 11 years. During this time, I was a state licensed and navy certified home daycare provider. It was this career that made me realize my love and passion for working with young children, so back to school I went to pursue a career in teaching!

I also want to introduce Mrs. Mearkle as she is our teacher's assistant this year! This is Mrs. Mearkle's 1st year here at SES working with K-1 students as a TA but she was an amazing volunteer and substitute teacher here at SES prior to starting this position. I am excited she will be working with our class! Mrs. Mearkle has been married to her husband Justin for 10 years and has two amazing boys who attend SES as well!

Both Mrs. Mearkle and I are excited to be a part of your child’s educational journey. We look forward to getting to know your child and creating a safe, nurturing, and fun learning environment to help foster their academic and social/emotional growth this school year! Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at shill@currituck.k12.nc.us or (252) 232-2237 ext. 6048 should you have any concerns regarding your child’s learning or progress.
