Bio: I joined the team here at Currituck Middle in  December of 2014 and feel very honored to be here.  I taught high school biology in the great state of Kentucky (I am a big time UK fan) for twenty seven years prior to my arrival at CCMS.  My wife, Senta and I really love this area. We had vacationed here many times in the past and now have the opportunity to live in our vacation spot. The good people of Currituck County have made us feel right at home.  We are starting to feel like locals.  I look forward to many successful years here at CCMS.

In my classes, we will emphasize the importance of thinking like a scientist.  We will learn how science knowledge and skills are used in our everyday life, no matter which vocation we choose.  This year we plan to incorporate more hands on learning in science.  Observation and communication are a couple of skills that will be emphasized.  One of our goals will be to learn something new every single day.  All of us should strive to be life-long learners.

I am excited to be teaching the eighth grade science classes this school year.  We will be working hard, working smart, learning the practical applications of science, and hopefully loving it.  I am looking forward to seeing some fresh and friendly faces this year.  Students be ready to hit the ground running and prepare for success.

Middle school is an important transitional time for our students.  We will strive to develop good habits and a solid knowledge base that will serve them well as they move on through high school and college.

2020 is going to be a very different year.  In all my years of teaching, and we're talking about many years, there has never been a time like this.  It will be a year full of challenges for teachers, students and paretns alike.  I am not discouraged, every challenge we face brings with it an opportunity. We will rise to meet this challenge and we will all become better people for it. We will learn together, we will work together, we will grow together.  And whatever the future holds, we will face those challenges together.

"When things do not go your way, remember that every challenge--every adversity--contains within it the seeds of opportunity and growth." - Roy T. Bennett

We've got this!  I am looking forward to a productive year.

    Instructional information:

As we begin our virtual instruction, one of our goals is to make it as much like a regular school day as possible.  With that in mind please have a notebook and something to write with handy as we start class. You will take notes, ask questions, take tests and quizes, do classwork and get grades, just like always.  I encourage your participation and enthusiasm for learning, just as I always have done in my classes.  This way, when we do return to in person classes, it won't be all that different.  I look forward to getting to know you, teaching you some useful science material, and helping you through this very different school year.
