About our Program

Currituck County Schools offer a full continuum of services for students identified as Exceptional Children ages three through twenty-one. Services are provided for students identified as Autistic, Hearing Impaired, Deaf/Blind, Deaf, Multihandicapped, Orthopedically Impaired, Other Health Impaired, Preschool Delayed/Atypical, Specific Learning Disabled, Speech-Language Impaired, Traumatic Brain Injured, Visually Impaired; or as having a Serious Emotional Disability, or a Mild, Moderate, or Severe Intellectual Disability.

Our programs are federal, state, and locally funded and all programs follow the Procedures Governing Programs and Services for Children with Disabilities or the locally adopted Academically and Intellectually Gifted Plan and state guidelines.

Project Child Find

Child Find is an effort coordinated by the Currituck County School System and the Exceptional Children Division of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to locate and identify children and youth ages 0 through 21 with disabilities who are in need of special education and related services; and to inform parents and/or guardians of the services available from their local school system and other state and community agencies.

Referrals to the Exceptional Children program can be made directly to the school your child is zoned to attend or by contacting the EC Department.

Please contact Jamie Miller, Director of Exceptional Children, for any further information.
