    Dear students and families,

Welcome to choir at Currituck County Middle School. This is my second year teaching chorus in Currituck County Middle Schools. I originally earned my Education degree in French and Music in Canada and taught in schools there for a few years. I directed the Drama Club and musicals there. My instrument at that time was classical guitar, but I went back to school earning degrees in vocal performance, and I finished my Doctor of Music degree in Voice Performance at Indiana University.

I spent a number of years performing in concerts, operas, and musicals in both Canada and the United States. Roles have included Berthe in Pippin, Lucy in The Telephone, Jasmine in Bagdad Café, Marie in The Most Happy Fella, Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, and Fire in L’Enfant et les Sortileges by Ravel. I also spent several years teaching at the college level including Chowan University, Indiana State, Vincennes University, Wabash College, and Southern Virginia University. During that time, I also sang in and led many choirs, both professional and amateur.

At MMS and CCMS, I have students sing mostly songs that they request, though I choose some repertoire too. We perform a lot of popular songs with me on the guitar. We usually have one or two evening concerts per semester where we invite parents, and others may include visiting other classrooms, elementary or other schools during school time. Now that performing is opening up, we will perform at Spring into the Arts, a county wide Saturday event, held at CCMS, this year on March 11.

    All the best,

    Dr. Lowry
