GPA matters; therefore, so does your homework.


  • To be eligible to take classes as part of Career and College Promise (CCP) at the College of the Albemarle (COA), high school students must meet specific requirements.

    • For direct placement into a math course at COA, completion of Math III EOC with a 4 or 5 and unweighted, cumulative HS GPA of 2.8 or higher 
      • JP Knapp policy is also the completion of Honors Pre-Calculus prior to taking MAT 171
      • unweighted, cumulative HS GPA of 2.799 - 2.2 must take the co-requisite
      • unweighted, cumulative HS GPA of less than 2.2 will complete all high school graduation requirements and then may enroll in curriculum transition courses
    • For direct placement into ENG 111, have a college GPA of 2.8 higher from 6 or more hours of UGETC courses orbe at least a high school Junior with an unweighted, cumulative HS GPA of 2.8 or higher
      • unweighted, cumulative HS GPA of 2.799 - 2.2 must take the co-requisite
      • unweighted, cumulative HS GPA of less than 2.2 will complete High School English IV and then may enroll in curriculum transition courses

  • Your college GPA matters. A low GPA may impact future financial aid opportunities. Your COA transcript will be requested by every college or university you attend. We encourage all students to take their coursework seriously, turn in assignments, utilize tutoring services and instructor office hours, and ask for assistance, even with the small stuff.
