Congratualations to the JES Battle of the Books 2018-2019 Team for winning our district competition!! Great job guys!!!!
The Jarvisburg Jaguars Battle of the Books Team is a team of 4th and 5th graders who have agreed to read and re-read selected books to become "experts" on the content. To be on the team, students must read the books, and create practice questions on each book. The team's knowledge of the books will be tested on competition day, when we formally compete with the other elementary school teams in our district.
Students who will be in 4th or 5th grade in 2019-2020 are eligible for the team. Students MUST agree to READ every word of all 10 books on the list below by February 1, 2020, so that selections for the competition team and competition practice may begin. These books are chapter books of varying lengths and difficulty.
Additionally, students will be given a short comprehension quiz on each book, and to be on the competition team, and must score a 70 or above (required) with only one retake allowed.
The team will meet during school and possibly on some afternoons after school.
Students who have not read all the books will limit their chances of being in the district competition. Competition teams can not consist of more than 12 players. In the event we have more than that, students will be given an exam about the content of the books, and the top 12 scores will be placed on the competition team. The competition will take place sometime in March/April 2020 (date not yet determined).
