Substitute Teacher RequirementsCurrituck County Schools requires anyone interested in becoming a substitute teacher to complete “Effective Teacher Training” prior to applying as a substitute teacher. This training is offered through College of the Albemarle at various intervals throughout the year. You can contact the Elizabeth City campus of COA at 252-335-0821 to get more information regarding this class or you can visit the COA website at College of the Albemarle. The course is also offered through other institutions, but the name of the course "Effective Teacher Training" will be the same. Please contact the institute of higher learning of your choice.If you have a teaching certificate whether current or expired from any state in any certification area, you do not have to take the Effective Teacher Training course.For more information or if you have any questions, please contact Melissa Futrell at
