    Common Curriculum Pacing and Assessments

    Teachers representing each school, department and/or grade level in K through 12 have been working as a district teams to use pacing guides and unit frameworks to create common assessments for courses in the core subject areas of Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies. This project began in an effort to integrate Common Core and Essential Standards as part of the state's READY project and Race to the Top plan.  Future plans call for further refinement of these frameworks with a focus on integrating 21st century skills and learning tools as well as common instructional practices identified by the district team.  
     
    Common assessments in these areas will be created using online assessment tools in Home Base.

    K-2 teachers designed unit frameworks and aligned math assessments with the pacing guides utilizing new instructional materials and resources gained from Math Partners Training, Daily 5, and Reading 3D instructional interventions from the past several years. 

    Literacy assessments are being conducted utilizing an assessment program, Reading 3D, and electronic devices to measure student progress against Dibels indicators and text reading comprehension (TRC) records.  This formative assessment tool is part of North Carolina's Read to Achieve Legislation.
