Welcome to Mrs. Philbrook's 4th Grade

I'm thrilled to be your child's 4th grade teacher for the 2016-17 school year. I have been teaching here at Moyock Elementary School for the past thirteen years. I have taught both third and fourth grade.  My children and I moved here from New Hampshire in June 2004. My son is recent graduate of CCHS and my daughter is a 10th grader at CCHS. We love the coast of North Carolina and plan to stay for many, many years. I enjoy the beach and spend a lot of time kayaking during the summer, as well as gardening and reading.

I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Animal Science and Agricultural Education from the University of Georgia, in Athens, and my Elementary Education degree from Salem State College in Salem, Massachusetts. I began teaching 3rd grade in 1994 in Hamilton, Massachusetts and taught there for four years. I then took a 7 year hiatus to stay at home and raise my children.

I am very excited about the new year, we have a lot of fun and interesting activities planned for the year. Some of the highlights are; learning about North Carolina's history, geography and its people. In Science, we will spend time learning about Rocks and Minerals, which North Carolina plays a big part in.  In math we will hone our skills in multiplication, division, fractions and problem solving.  My passion is teaching Language Arts.  We will be reading many fun and entertaining chapter books and continuing to find our voice with a variety of choice driven writing assignments.
I welcome parent volunteers in the classroom to help out with bulletin boards, classroom resources, reading one on one with students, class parties and various other activities.
