ABOUT MR. WRIGHT
I have been teaching at knotts Island for 19 years. Old Dominion University is where I studied and earned my bachelors degree in Physical Education. Teaching and shaping children fuel my passion for the teaching profession. The focal points of our program will be: respecting self and others, relationship building, and developing lifelong skills that will promote a healthy lifestyle.
Interaction is the key. All children benefit from participating in activities with other children. These activities are the building blocks of the social, physical, and cognitive development. It is in physical education that "learning through moving" is analyzed, demonstrated, understood, and applied. A child moves through a progression of basic skills to understand the movement concepts of themselves, in addition to, working with others. Whether or not a "top-notch" athlete is developed, is irrelevant. The lessons that are learned through effort, cooperation, and persistance will be the keys to open all doors of the future. Success for the students is to cooperate, participate, and help each other to grow. The goal is for them to learn to do this "independently", on their own. This happens through understanding and acceptance of the differences in personalities. - J.Wright
- Always come to class prepared (tennis shoes with rubber sole, shorts under skirts, and no dangling jewelry.)
- All students are asked to participate and give their best effort, while being open minded to try new things.
- Treat others the way that you want to be treated. (golden rule)-Take care and work safe with equipment.
- Follow directions, procedures, & class rule to produce a positive learning environment.
- Be Safe and Have fun! :)

CLASS DISCIPLINE POLICY
-123 Magic = First warning, last warning, timeout. Parent contact/Principal referral will follow if behavior continues to disrupt the learning environment of students.
-(Rewards): Shout out (positive feedback of student behavior), parent contact, and quarterly behavior awards.
- Health education: Mental/Emotional, Personal/Consumer, Nutrition/Physical Activity, Interpersonal Communication/Relationships, and Drug Education
- Fitness education: Cardiovascular, flexibility, strength, endurance, and BMI
- Dance: line, folk, square, hip hop, and creation
- Motor skills: catch, kick, run, jump, leap, dodge, punt, strike, etc.
- Manipulative skills with objects: catching, throwing, kicking, striking, dribbling, and volleying
- Non manipulative skills: rotation, transferring weight, locomotion variations and balancing
- Movement concepts of: body/spatial awareness, pathways, force, and relationship to environment
- Small lead up games (traditional/non traditional sport activities)
- Personal and social responsibility
-Self esteem/self control development
(K-5 grade) PE content rubric/report card codes will be: O - outstanding, S- satisfactory, N- needs improvement, and U- unsatisfactory.
**Students grades will be based 75% on skill assessment and 25% on participation in activities.
