Welcome to Reading Recovery and Title 1 Services!

I'm new to Griggs and so excited to have the privilege of serving our students and families this year! Despite the challenges we continue to face during the pandemic, I'm thrilled that we can continue with in-person learning. I'm looking forward to teaming with you, your students, your children's classroom teacher, and other support staff. If I serve your student, I'll be in touch with you, regularly, to keep you informed and to support your efforts at home. I welcome and encourage your input, as well.

I'm a native of VA. I grew up in the Tidewater area but have now lived in Currituck County for 19 years. All four of my children attended Currituck County Schools. I'm happy to be able to give back to my community. My husband, Don, is retired Navy. While raising our own children, I taught Sunday school and directed VBS programs at our church. That's how I learned my professional calling. While finishing my degree, I directed and taught our church's preschool program. I've been teaching in NC public schools ever since.

This is my 11th year teaching and my 7th as a Reading Recovery Teacher. I spent my first six years at Central Elementary in Elizabeth City and the last four years at Shawboro Elementary. I'm thrilled to support our Mallards at GES through Reading Recovery and Title 1 services. I know I'll enjoy working with my new colleagues, our students, and our families, too.

I LOVE ClassDojo! It will be my primary means of communicating with families whose children I serve. I'll share everything from quick notes to announcements on the Class Story, and even photos, videos, and student work samples there. You can also reach me by email here or by phone at (252)453-2700 extension 5531.

I'm looking forward to a fantastic year!
