Apple  Mrs. Drab- Kindergarten  apple
    Hello Kindergarten Families!
My name is Stefanie Drab and I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten this school year.  I have been an educator for the past thirteen years.  This will be my seventh year with North Carolina Public Schools.  Prior to working at SES, I worked in the Cheapeake Public School system where I taught 4th grade.  I reside here in Currituck with my husband, three children and two German Shepherd pups.  My husband is a professional firefighter for the city of Norfolk.  My three children attend Currituck County Schools as well. My family loves to travel and spend time together.
I absoutely love teaching and am so excited to share this love of learning with your child this year.  I am origionally from upstate New York.  I attended the State University of New York at Cortland, NY and recieved my Bachelor of Science in Childhood Education.  I love to read, sing to Broadway musicals and go to the beach.  I am also a huge lover of coffee, peanut m&ms and shopping at Target!  I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year and hope you know that I will love them dearly.
Mrs. Anderson will be our Teacher Assistant this year.  Prior to joining our classroom, Mrs. Anderson worked as an instructional assistant at Griggs Elementary School.  Mrs. Anderson loves to travel with her family and spend time together.  She lives in South Mills with her husband and two daughters.  Mrs. Anderson is a fantastic teacher and we are lucky to have her in our classroom each day!
    Daily Schedule Information:
We will have a daily 95-minute literacy block.  During this time, stduents will work on the Secret Stories phonics program, Jan Richardson guided reading groups and language arts center activities.  The information presented to your child will stregnthen reading skills and assist them in becoming lifelong learners. We love to read here in room 400!
The kindergarten team will be using the Currituck County math pacing guide & math cluster lessons provided by the North Carolina Depertmant of Education to drive our math instruction this year.  Our daily lessons will focus on the skills your child needs inorder to become familiar with numbers and various math related skills (counting, adding, subtracting).  This program teaches concepts a bit differntly than the math that we all learned while growing up, but it encourages each child to approach problem solving in a new and exciting way!  You child will be loving math this year!
Our Kindergarten team is excited to be using the Secret Stories Phonics program this year as well.  This program is a fun & educational approach to the "secret" reasons WHY letters get together and make the different sounds that they do! They offer logical explanations for letter sound behavior that students can remember and relate too.  Your child will be coming home each week excited to share a reading "secret" with you!
Your child will have specials every day.  Our weekly newsletter will indicate what specials we have for the week.  We will rotate between Music, Art, PE, STREAM and Computers.  Your child will also participate in a monthly Guidance lesson. Students will also go to the library weekly for read alouds and book exchanges.  Please send your child to school each week with their library books.  Readers are leaders in room 400!
I love teaching kindergarten & I am looking forward to helping your child develop a love for learning.  Kindergarten is such an exciting year, for both students and parents.  You are going to be amazed watching your child grow and learn this school year. Please feel free to email, call or Dojo message me with any questions or concerns you may have. I am looking forward to working with you & your amazing child this year.  Together we will make this year a fantastic one!
