District Accreditation AdvancED    SACSCASI

Currently, the Currrituck County School System is one of only three School Districts in the Northeastern Region (Region 1) of North Carolina that is either not accredited as a district or does not have any accredited schools. The Currituck County School System is beginning the process of pursuing District Accreditation.  Accreditation is important for our students and our schools for many reasons. These reasons include:
  • Accreditation is a systems-based approach to improving student performance
  • Engaging in the accreditation process acknowledges that increasing student achievement involves more than improving instruction
  • Provides a comprehensive framework for continuous improvement of student achievement and district performance
  • Provides a nationally and internationally recongized mark of quality for our school district (printed on student transcripts)
  • Involves all stakeholders (students, parents, community members, teachers, administrators, central office staff, and board members) in achieving the vision of the district
  • Provides an opportunity for external support and feedback for our district
  • Connects our district to the best practices of other accredited districts across the country
  • Provides a resource for technical assistance

The Accrediting Agency for public schools in the southeast is SACS CASI (Southern Association for Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement).  SACS CASI is an accredited division of AdvancED.  Awarding accreditation to a school district is based on the adherence to a set of quality standards in seven areas.  The AdvancED Accreditation Standards for Quality School Systems will guide the work of pursuing district accreditation in Currituck County.
