Common Curriculum Pacing and Assessments

Updates and Resources

Teachers representing each school, department and/or grade level in K through 12 have been working as a district teams to use pacing guides and unit frameworks to create common assessments for courses in the core subject areas of Reading,Math, Science, and Social Studies. Phase II of this project has included the integration of Common Core and Essential Standards as part of the ACRE project and Race to the Top.
Common assessments in these areas have been created using two online assessment tools-- ClassScape and EdTech Systems' Build My Test.

K-2 teachers designed unit frameworks and aligned math assessments with the pacing guides utilizing new instructional materials and resources gained from Math Partners Training, Daily 5, and Reading 3D instructional interventions from the past several years.  Literacy assessments are being conducted utilizing an assessment program, Reading 3D, and Netbook devices to measure student progress against Dibels indicators and reading records.  This formative assessment tool is part of North Carolina's Diagnostic Assessment of Reading Initiative.

Updates and resources for using these tools are linked below.

The review process will continue through the following summer and school year, integrating new teaching and assessment resources provided by DPI as a productof the ACRE project and adoption of Essential/Common Core Standards for each area. Documents have been posted to the website in Word format for easy download, use, and editing (for feedback purposes). A feedback form will be provided for all to use in making comments throughout the process.

The curriculum guide and assessment process is a cycle that will enable us to continuously evaluate our pacing, teaching, and student learning as we learn more about effective practices and the use of formative assessments as a partof regular instruction.
