Welcome to Knotts Island Elementary School


 Knotts Island is a small rural community surrounded by the beautiful waters of Knotts Island Bay and the Currituck Sound. An abundance of woods and marshes on the adjacent Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge, create an atmosphere of beauty and tranquility. Educators find this setting perfect for conveying an understanding and appreciation of our area's uniqueness. Situated in the heart of this isolated community is Knotts Island Elementary School, home of the Woodducks. Knotts Island Elementary is a K-5 school with approximately 105 students.


  • Kindergarten Registration for new students can be found online on the district home page.  Parents can also register at Knotts Island Elementary on April 22 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.  Forms can be picked up at office during school hours.  Students must be 5 years old by August 31, 2015.  parents or legal guardians must provide proof of residency, child's original birth certificate and updated shot record.

    It's Preschool Registration Time!
    The 2015-2016 Knotts Island Elementary Preschool has a limited number of spots available.  Spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.  The cost is $55 per month.  Classes will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM each week. Your child must be 4 years old on or before August 31st, 2015.  
    Please stop by the KIES office or call the school to sign up.

  • KI Cares about our environment. 
    We collect the following items for recycling and reuse.  Items can be sent in with a student or dropped off at the office.
    Drink pouches- Foil pouches should be empy and no straws.
    Elmer's Glue Sticks- Empty
    Color markers- Send in unusable markers
    Ink cartridges- any printer style is acceptable.
